It is devastating to consider. To reflect on what is happening in the world. It doesn’t really matter what your world view is, your life view is, your spiritual disposition, what religion you subscribe to, or what your station in life happens to be. The information has trickled in slowly and inexorably, uncontrolled fires, earthquakes and tsunamis, hurricanes, record heat waves, HIV, SARS, bird flu, Ebola, locust swarms, global warming, melting Arctic and Antarctic ice and the resulting rise in sea levels – there is a plague in the land no matter what land you inhabit. Its not just the presence of these phenomena, it’s the frequency and intensity of them all that represents a plague in our homes, communities, nations and ultimately the world. I am not a fear monger, bible thumper, or a conspiracy theorist. I am also not a fool, and idiot, or in denial. When the entire world economy almost shuts down, forget the world economy – the American economy is in free fall because of a deep wound that is a tiny virus. You know there’s not much that Americans love more than their money. Think about that…. Virtually no one is pursuing a dollar today, right now. People – wealthy, newly rich, comfortable, struggling financially and the poor – are all huddled together waiting for the plague to pass. Hoping that it does not stop at their door. Each is powerless to save themselves and cannot pursue the great American pastime, not baseball but making money. What happens after Rona World? Will we really be overrun by Zombies. Its not funny, its not a joke, its not a game – what’s next? I don’t have the answer, but I know that regular folks have got to wake up and understand that we are not prepared for this or what’s next. If recent history is any guide, what is coming next will be far worse. Today most people are in fear of losing their place in the world. Guess what, it doesn’t matter what that place is, there is real fear and some evidence that you could lose it. There are millions of people waiting on or hoping for a check from the federal government. When you step back and look, someone has an equation that tells them who are the most desperate and vulnerable persons in the country from a financial point of view. This information has been known for years. There is knowledge that the minimum wage is at a shameful low level, there is very little housing for people at the bottom. You just can’t afford to live even when times are good. Like two or three months ago. People are working two or three jobs and still struggling to pay all the bills and not live on the street. You know who I am talking about, some of them is Us. If its not you then family members. You know folks have been living in small not so nice motels for years. Working hard and falling farther down the rabbit hole of hard times. I learned long ago: “It’s not what you say it’s what you do.” Results are what is important. Is what we are experiencing now the results you expect from our homeland – the wealthiest country in the world. Where is the outrage, where is the anger? When will Americans find their voice and take action. It’s not what you or anybody else, including me, says – it’s what you do. What are you prepared to do?

I have silently watched a number of events unfold over the past few years.
In the face of each milestone, as a society, there is no collective outrage. Have we lost our edge? Is there any full blooded, full throated men and women left in this country? I was shocked that no one attempted to shoot, assault or otherwise seek raw retribution on Madoff. How can this happen? Am I still living in America? In the America I know, people come out of their homes and fight in the streets. Sometimes we fight each other but most of the time we fight against what we perceive as injustice and institutional tyranny. Now we just tune to our preferred news source, nod our heads and watch another Netflix movie. The people of this country appear weak. The rest of the world senses that after almost two decades of warfare we are weary and tired. So tired that we don't even fight against obvious and blatant abuses of the very foundations of our democracy. Time to turn the screens off and go kick some politician ass. I don't know about you, but I get sick of watching representatives of every stripe pontificate and repeat talking points without answering a single question of significance. From time to time I see fights in the parliamentary chambers of other countries. I can't help but think 'time for some American citizens to, figuratively if not literally, punch out some of the so called 'representatives' at both the local and national level. Is our government for sale or is it already bought and paid for by corporate America?
With the entire election system awash in cash, the demonstrated effectiveness of political adds and social media campaigns, one must conclude that the representatives do not respond to the man on the street. There is movement once the suits in the boardrooms make demands and threaten to pull their financial support. |
